Firstly, thank you to His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Office of the Crown Prince Court of the UAE for asking me to present to them. As part of the UAE’s continued desire to explore and reap the benefits of emerging technologies and trends and understand their impact on global business, culture, and society, HH and the court convened to listen and discuss several themes of interest that included Blockchain and tokens, cryptocurrencies, NFT’s, and the Metaverse.

During the first session, and give the varied background of everyone involved, I gave the court an introduction to blockchain including discussing how it worked, its impact and trajectory, and of course those all important use cases.

The, during the second and third sessions we discussed cryptocurrencies as well as the future role of CBDC’s, NFT’s and the developing ecosystem, and the future role that tokens will play in helping reshape every industry and transaction in the digital, physical, and of course virtual worlds.

Which then neatly bought us to the final session where we discussed the metaverse and how in time, in about 20 years or so, Metaverse 2.0 could finally help us build worlds and experiences that are indistinguishable from the real thing.

We then concluded the day with an in depth discussion about the implications that all of these will, or could, have for the UAE and its future vision, all of which left me eagerly waiting for the next one.
